Cashmere and IOP Publishing to expand access to trusted physical sciences research through AI

09 Sep 2026 by Faye Holst Cashmere and IOP Publishing today announced a new partnership. Cashmere and IOP Publishing today announced a new partnership.

Partnership enables IOP Publishing’s book and journal content to be discovered through authorised AI applications, while providing insight into how scientific research is accessed and used.

Cashmere, a content infrastructure platform for trusted publishers, and IOP Publishing (IOPP) today announced a new partnership. The agreement will bring IOPP’s proprietary portfolio of book and journal research into AI applications for inference use cases, using Cashmere’s infrastructure to license and monitor usage of that content without exposing it to the risk of unauthorised use in LLM training.

As AI becomes an increasingly common way to discover and access information, publishers are seeking ways to make trusted content available through these emerging channels while maintaining transparency around how it is used. Cashmere provides infrastructure that enables publishers to license content for AI applications, support copyright-compliant access and gain insight into how content is being accessed and used.

“Scientific publishers like IOP Publishing have spent decades building rigorously reviewed, trusted bodies of research — exactly the kind of premium content AI platforms need for reliable inference,” said Jonathan Munk, Co-Founder and CEO of Cashmere. “Our infrastructure gives IOPP a way to make that content available to AI applications on its own terms: licensed for inference, protected from training use, and fully tracked, so every use is visible and compensated. We’re proud to help extend IOPP’s mission into the AI era.”

“AI is reshaping how people discover, explore and interact with scientific knowledge,” said Antonia Seymour, Chief Executive of IOP Publishing. “As it becomes a more prominent gateway to research, we want to help ensure that researchers and other users can find trusted, high-quality scientific content through those channels. As a purpose-driven publisher, we see this as an opportunity not only to support new routes to discovery, but also to help shape how scientific knowledge is represented, accessed and attributed in an AI-enabled world, in ways that support the integrity of the scholarly record and the wider research ecosystem. The insights from this partnership will help us better understand how people engage with research through AI, informing how we continue to support our community and advance the communication of physics research.”

The partnership builds on Cashmere’s growing network of publisher relationships, which spans academic, trade, and professional content, as it works to establish licensed, copyright-compliant infrastructure as the standard for how premium content reaches AI systems.
