Statement on Ukraine

03 Mar 2022 by Rachael Harper

IOP Publishing condemns Russia’s actions against Ukraine which are a violation of one of the most fundamental norms of international law that prohibits the use or threat of force by one state against another.  As a member of the European Physical Society we support the statement of the Executive Committee.

Physics is a global endeavour. We stand in solidarity with the scientific community and the scientists in Ukraine and we acknowledge the Russian scientists and citizens who speak out against the war and condemn the invasion.

We have given Ukrainian institutions free access to all content on IOPscience through our partnership with Research4Life. We will also waive APC payments for corresponding authors based in Ukraine so that they can publish open access for free in any of our journals and are offering submission extensions for any researcher whose ability to work is affected. We hope that this will help in some small way.

We will continue to take steps to comply with the applicable EU, UK and US sanctions as and when they are introduced.

We hope for a quick resolution of the crisis to bring an end to its devastating impacts on the people of Ukraine.
