19 Oct 2020 by Rachael Harper

Event to be livestreamed over four days

IOP Publishing and the Institute of Physics (IOP) have kicked off Quantum 2020 virtual conference today. Over 3000 researchers from industry, academia and government from across the globe will be joining the inaugural event to discuss some of the most cutting-edge directions in quantum science and technology.

The conference, which is organised in partnership with the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Chinese Physical Society (CPS), will be live streamed over the next four days (19 – 22 October) on the Underline platform.

Attendees will hear from leading experts in the field as they come together to discuss the latest developments in the industry and commercial sector and perceptions from around the world on the future direction of the field. Thirty eight talks and panel sessions will be streamed from world-renowned scientists, including Sergio Boixo from Google, Michelle Simmons from the University of New South Wales, Jelena Vuckovic from Stanford University and Cheng-Zhi Peng, University of Science and Technology China. In addition, 130 poster submissions will be presented at an interactive session, giving researchers the opportunity to exchange knowledge and collaborate on emerging areas of interest.

The event will culminate with an international awards ceremony where the winners of the Quantum Technology ‘young scientist’ and ‘emerging researcher’ awards will be announced. The awards, which have received nearly 50 nominations, recognise and support scientific excellence and development of quantum technology researchers at the early stages of their career.

Antonia Seymour, publishing director said: “Quantum 2020 is an unmissable event featuring ground-breaking research from some of the world’s leading experts in quantum science and technology. Join us for four days of learning and collaboration as we bring the global quantum science community together virtually.”
