In collaboration with Publons, IOP Publishing has introduced Article Badges to show when an article includes open peer review reports.
The badges allow readers to see a summary of the article’s peer review history, including the number of revisions, editor decision letters and authors’ responses.
Clicking the badge brings up the article’s complete peer review history on Publons’ site.
The badges are part of IOPP’s trial of transparent peer review on three of its journals: JPhys Materials, Environmental Research Letters and the Journal of Neural Engineering.
There is an increasing demand for open peer review, as publishers and researchers strive to bring greater transparency to the research process. Open peer review can reduce fraud and retractions, improving research integrity and reproducibility. It also provides greater visibility and recognition of the efforts of reviewers.
