IOP Publishing launches 2019 Annual Report
IOP Publishing (IOPP) has released its 2019 Annual Report. It sets out how IOPP has contributed to ensuring trust in scientific research, and advancing scientific discovery through its widest dissemination. It also looks at how this work will continue into 2020.
During 2019, IOPP worked to improve its services to researchers, reviewers, editors and publishing partners, while simultaneously meeting the demands from funders and universities for greater open access.
It now has a portfolio of 14 fully open access journals, with hybrid publishing options on almost all its subscription journals. It has also negotiated transformative agreements in 10 countries, with more to be agreed in 2020, and will work with its partners to bring as many of their journals as possible into these agreements.
IOPP has also laid out a commitment to access, transparency and inclusivity, in the form of its Open Physics initiative. This is IOPP’s promise to ensure inclusivity and improve diversity at every step of the publishing process. It focuses on how high-quality research is disseminated and made as visible as possible, and encourages reproducibility and access to data.
To further advance diversity, inclusion and equality in science, in 2019 IOPP introduced new initiatives, including trialing transparent peer review on several journals, and setting stretching targets for the gender and geographic diversity of reviewers.
Partnerships with other societies remain core to IOPP’s work, and in 2019 the Electrochemical Society chose IOPP to publish its journals, including the most respected journal in its field, the Journal of The Electrochemical Society.
