Insights from Editorial Board Members: Spotlight on India – Professor Manu Jaiswal

Professor Manu Jaiswal of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, and a member of the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics (JPhysD) Editorial Board, shares his insights on working with IOP Publishing and supporting research in applied physics and two-dimensional materials. 

What has been your experience working on the editorial board of JPhysD? 

One aspect of working with JPhysD that stands out for me is the rigour of the peer review process and its strong focus on objectivity and scientific accuracy.  

As an editorial board member, I have had the opportunity to assess and adjudicate a wide range of submissions, including cases where authors and reviewers disagreed, or where reviewers held differing views on the same manuscript. 

These discussions often raise important questions about the scientific methods and practices used within a study. In such situations, board members must carefully balance the concerns raised by reviewers with the authors’ responses and supporting evidence. 

I have found this responsibility to be both intellectually stimulating and academically rewarding, while also providing valuable insight into the standards that underpin high-quality scientific publishing.”
