IOP Publishing to announce new e-first books programme at Frankfurt Book Fair

09 Jan 2016 by iopp

Confidential news update: News embargoed until 11 October 2012

I am writing to inform you that IOP Publishing will be making a significant announcement at this week’s Frankfurt Book Fair about the launch of our new ebooks programme.

Entering the books market is part of IOP’s long-term strategy to make us the destination of choice for scientists wishing to publish their research or use the research of others. Our goal is to be the place authors choose to publish high-quality books in an e-first program. Our authors will benefit from all of the opportunities our leading edge digital publishing platform offers – including formats, distribution and ease of access.

Books are not entirely new to us, and many of our partners and colleagues will remember that IOP has had a long history in books publishing – in fact we were one of the first publishers to experiment with ebooks. The company sold the books division in 2005 to focus on its journals portfolio; however, since then the landscape for books publishing has changed dramatically. We feel that we are in an excellent position to make use of the new technologies available to launch a high-quality ebooks programme that will complement our current journals portfolio.

This is a future-orientated project – all content will be “born-digital”, ensuring that we meet the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s research communities without the constraints of legacy issues such as those related to print.

We appreciate that the launch of this new programme will generate a lot of interest and we will continue to update you via the IOP Publishing website as the programme develops. In the meantime, please send any questions to ebooks@iop.org, or get in touch with your dedicated contact at IOP Publishing for further information.

As part of the programme we will begin commissioning book content immediately. If you have an idea for a new book we would love to hear from you! Your usual IOP contact will be happy to direct your idea to the appropriate contact or alternatively you can e-mail a summary proposal to ebooks@iop.org.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes,

Dr. Olaf Ernst, Commercial Director, IOP Publishing
