Celebrating Open Access Week 2022: Open For Climate Justice

24 Oct 2022 by Faye Holst

This week we celebrate Open Access Week 2022 by focussing on how equal access to science gives researchers from all over the world a chance to work together to find ways to adapt to climate change.

In support of this year’s theme of #OpenForClimateJustice, IOP Publishing have brought together research that is related to the UN sustainable development goals, from studies about droughts and wildfire hazards to the feasibility of refreezing arctic icecaps. This dedicated Sustainability Collection of work published by IOP Publishing is free for anyone to read.

Miriam Maus, publishing director at IOP Publishing says: “At IOP Publishing we recognise the value and impact of scientific research and believe that wider and faster access to this trusted source of knowledge is key to accelerating scientific discovery.”

Marking this year’s Open Access Week, IOP Publishing has also created a video showing how #OpenAccess to research can help solve the climate crisis.

Open access wouldn’t exist without the support of authors. Listen to Rosalind Donald, Assistant Professor of Communications at the American University, talk about the importance of climate justice and why she supports open access publishing
