Enabling the global scientific community to connect virtually
IOP Publishing has announced the winners of its #IOPPposter competition. Now in its second year, the poster competition, which was hosted on Twitter, opened-up a lively online discussion about the latest research in emerging areas of interest.
And the winners are…

- Environment and energy – Adail A. Rivera-Nieves
- Materials and Condensed Matter – Kalle Kansanen
- Mathematics and computation – Alessandra Toniato
- Medical physics and biophysics – Abigail Keogan
- Optics and photonics – Megan Clapperton
- Particle and nuclear physics – Rogan Clark
- Plasmas – Meriame Berboucha
- Quantum – Juan Vazquez
The competition ran in July 2021, giving scientists worldwide the opportunity to present research in an online format to the entire scientific community.
The posters were judged by leading international experts, and IOP Publishing journal board members. Winners were rewarded £100 and an IOPP e-book of their choice. The best posters represented eleven of the fifteen categories included in the competition.
Over 24 hours, a constant stream of researchers joined in and shared their work with peers, experts, and subject chair panellists. There were more than 30,000 #IOPPposter impressions and over 400 comments generated about the research.

It is key to our mission to engage with research and researchers in multiple ways and as a highly used social media platform amongst academics, Twitter is important in that respect.
