IOP Publishing celebrates Top Cited Paper Awards 2025

IOP Publishing (IOPP) is proud to announce the winners of its Top Cited Paper Awards 2025, recognising the top one percent of most-cited papers published in its propriety journals.
This year’s honours include:
- 51 top cited papers from China with a combined total of 3,959 citations
- 29 papers from India cited 1,414 times
- 20 papers from North America amounting to 2,701 citations
The recognised papers span a broad range of disciplines – from astrophysics and astronomy to biomedical science, environmental research, and sustainability. Across all subjects, astronomy, materials science, and review articles stood out as the most frequently cited.
“Congratulations to all our authors whose work has earned a Top Cited Paper Award,” said Miriam Maus, Chief Publishing Officer at IOPP.
“The breadth and depth of this year’s awarded research is truly remarkable. These papers have resonated across the global scientific community, advancing knowledge and helping to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. It’s inspiring to celebrate researchers whose work is driving progress and shaping the future of science.”
