IOP Publishing and China National Knowledge Infrastructure sign agreement

27 Jun 2012 by iopp

IOP Publishing (IOP) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) have signed an agreement to create an IOP Journal Metadata Database, which will give researchers in China greater access to key journal content published by IOP and the company’s partners.

As a result of this arrangement researchers at Chinese institutions can now search the IOP Journal Metadata Database, by keyword, to find IOP-hosted articles. The database, hosted on CNKI’s website, will include articles published in IOP journals from 1874 to the present. It can be used to find article titles, keywords, abstracts, authors, author affiliations, journal titles, article DOIs and journal ISSNs.

CNKI is the largest electronic collection of academic literature in China; it is used in over 20,000 institutions and is the search engine of choice for Chinese researchers.

This agreement further strengthens IOP’s relationship with the Chinese scientific community. IOP has had an editorial office in Beijing for 12 years and has recently expanded its operations by opening a sales and marketing office in the city. In 2011, IOP signed agreements with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the China National Science and Technology Library (NSTL), giving Chinese researchers easy access to IOP’s content. IOP also partners with several Chinese organizations to publish their journals.

Nicola Gulley, Editorial Director at IOP, said, “We are delighted that we have been able to partner with CNKI on this initiative to offer Chinese researchers a new and better research experience. We are firmly committed to working with our many partners in China to look for new ways to strengthen dialogue within the international scientific community.”
