Electronic Structure – a new journal from IOP Publishing

18 Jun 2018 by Simon Davies

IOP Publishing has introduced Electronic Structure (EST) as the newest addition to its journal portfolio.

EST is a multidisciplinary journal, covering all theoretical and experimental aspects of electronic structure research, including the development of new methods.

It is dedicated to the entirety of electronic structure research and its community, spanning materials science, physics, chemistry and biology.  It welcomes papers using any theoretical or experimental technique to study any aspect of electronic structure.

The journal is led by joint Editors-in-Chief Dr Bert de Jong (Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, USA) and Professor Risto Nieminen (Aalto University, Finland).

Dr Jong and Professor Niemenen said: “Electronic structure is the beating heart of scientific discovery and rational design in molecular and material science. Control and rational design of materials and molecular properties is obtained through a fundamental understanding of electronic structure, across multiple length and timescales.

“We would like Electronic Structure to become the first-choice journal for the entire electronic structure community, ranging from core physics and chemistry of materials and molecular systems, to the widening range of disciplines where electronic degrees of freedom play a decisive role in their behaviour.”

Tom Sharp, EST’s Publisher at IOP Publishing, said: “Until now there has not been a journal dedicated to the entire electronic structure community, and it is something that this multidisciplinary, and rapidly growing, field deserves.”

EST opened for submissions on the 29th May 2018. All articles will be free to read until the end of 2019.
