Bringing the book to life – IOP ebooks enhanced with video

14 Oct 2015 by iopp

IOP Publishing (IOP) is celebrating the anniversary of its award-winning IOP ebooks programme at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair with exciting new video functionality.

IOP has published its first ebook enhanced with video to enable readers to not only read about science but to hear about it directly from the author and other leading experts.

The first book to benefit from this new functionality is “Transport in Semiconductor Mesoscopic Devices” by renowned academic David Ferry, Regents’ Professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, Arizona State University.

The book includes nine videos which are a mix of animations and interviews with academics who discuss aspects of their research and how it helps to solve a particular problem, within semiconductor physics. This dynamic new content reduces the distance between the front-end research and helps the reader get under the skin of the subject matter.

Since IOP ebooks launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2013, more than 50 books have been published in the programme.

IOP was one of the first STM publishers to offer single chapter and whole-book download functionality in EPUB 3 format, providing greater flexibility in terms of how researchers access content, while also widening the impact of the authors’ work. The organisation recently signed an agreement with the American Astronomical Society to build an astronomy book collection.

IOP is at the Frankfurt Book Fair – booth 4.2, K55.
