IOPP’s 2025 Highlights Report summarizes progress made throughout the year

IOP Publishing (IOPP) has released its 2025 Highlights Report, outlining progress in publishing innovation, openness and research integrity over the past year. The report includes key milestones across the organisation’s strategy, such as continued growth in open access publishing, with more than half (51%) of all research in 2025 published openly, underscoring IOPP’s commitment to making high quality scientific knowledge accessible to the world.

Other 2025 highlights include:

  • 35,674 – total number of articles published in 2025
  • 89 million – total number of article downloads from IOPscience in 2025 (including conference series)
  • Over 4,000 – reviewers awarded Trusted Reviewer Status in 2025
  • 36% – reduction in carbon emissions since 2020
  • 100% – of article publication charge income from retracted papers donated to Research4Life

In 2025, IOPP also continued to scale its publishing programme, launching new titles in fast‑moving fields such as biomedical sciences, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Antonia Seymour, CEO at IOP Publishing says: “What 2025 has made clear is that adaptability, transparency and a strong sense of purpose must guide how we evolve amid the significant challenges we are facing. These pressures only reinforce the importance of our purpose-led approach. As a society publisher, everything we do is designed to serve the research community. The progress we’ve made in 2025, shows the strength of our mission and the trust our community places in us.”
