IOP SciNotes – an innovative new open access journal for short research publications from IOP Publishing
10 Dec 2019 by Simon DaviesIOP Publishing is introducing IOP SciNotes, a new peer-reviewed, open access journal that will enable researchers across the physical and environmental sciences to publish shorter research results and other related outputs, which may not be suited to the traditional full-length journal article format.
With IOP SciNotes, IOP Publishing will increase its support for open, transparent and reproducible approaches to scientific publication.
Researchers will have a reliable forum to validate, share and discover individual stages or units of research endeavour. Article types will range from new positive or negative results, to reproduction studies or descriptions of scientifically-valuable methods and datasets.
The journal’s peer review will focus on scientific validity, reproducibility and clarity, and not judge research on the grounds of novelty and impact.
Its editorial scope will cover all subject areas served by the IOP Publishing programme, including specifically physics, materials, environmental science, physical chemistry, bioscience, engineering, and mathematics and computation.
“IOP SciNotes will represent open science practices to extend access and transparency in the physical sciences, with the aim of accelerating scientific discovery. For authors, the journal will represent a formal publication route for valuable scientific material that deserves credit, and may not otherwise have been made open and discoverable to other researchers in the field,” said Daniel Keirs, Associate Director for Journals Strategy at IOP Publishing.
The journal will be supported and guided by an international editorial board of leading scientists from across the physical sciences, with peer review managed by IOP Publishing’s team of expert editors.
IOP SciNotes is now open for submissions and, until at least June 30th 2020, all publication costs will be covered by IOP Publishing, meaning no fees are charged to readers or authors.
Full details about the scope, Editorial Board and submission guidelines can be found on the journal homepage.
