IOP Publishing brings expert scholarly analytics provider The Lens on board
21 Jan 2022 by Faye HolstIOP Publishing (IOPP) has partnered with The Lens, a not-for-profit data aggregation and analysis platform for scholarly articles and patents. The Lens will support IOPP with additional insight into the performance of its published research and networks within scholarly publishing.
With over 20 years of development and supported by prominent philanthropic organisations, The Lens ingests, cleans, aggregates and normalises rich metadata, serving over 240 million scholarly works, 135 million global patent records, and more than 407 million patent sequences.
The Lens provides metadata linked to IOP Publishing’s broad range of research output – from funding data and author details to AI assigned subject topics and geographic information. For example, the rich patent data within The Lens will provide another way for researchers to understand the impact of their work.
Chris Wileman, data scientist at IOP Publishing comments: “The Lens are aligned with our not-for-profit ethos and provide us with a human-centred user experience built on an open web platform. Their extensive and linked data on both scholarly works and patents will make it easier for our teams to better serve the scientific communities they support.”
Richard Jefferson, CEO of The Lens, added: “IOP Publishing stakes itself out again as a leader in open science by supporting inclusive access to knowledge to accelerate innovation. We are delighted to provide our services to IOP Publishing to help them expand the world of physics through linking authors and institutions with funders and commercial parties. Breaking down silos of specialisation by bringing together metadata, from scholarly research and patent knowledge to policy, laws, regulations, investment and business data will increase academic impact and discovery.”
