Congratulations to the 2019 Nobel Laureates in Physics

09 Oct 2019 by Simon Davies

The wait to discover the winners of this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics is over.

IOP Publishing congratulates James Peebles, Michel Mayor, and Didier Queloz on becoming the latest Nobel Prize laureates. The Nobel committee recognised the three researchers “for contributions to our understanding of the evolution of the universe and Earth’s place in the cosmos”.

Professor Peebles won one half of the award for his theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology. Professor Mayor and Professor Queloz share the other half for their discovery of an exoplanet – 51 Pegasi b – orbiting a solar-type star.

In recognition of their achievement, we have put together a collection of relevant papers by the laureates and others, which are free to read until 31 October 2019. Some of these papers were cited in the Nobel Prize scientific background document, and we encourage all to read them.

The collection can be found here.
