Authors now able to include ORCID iDs with their submissions

09 Jan 2016 by iopp

IOP Publishing (IOP) is delighted to announce that authors submitting papers are now able to include their ORCID iD with their online submission to nearly 40 journals.

ORCID is an acronym for Open Researcher and Contributor ID system. The goal of the ORCID project is to clearly attribute scholarly output to an individual, by giving each researcher a unique, opaque identifier that will stay with them regardless of changes of name, job role or institution.

IOP is a platinum sponsor of the ORCID project as part of the company’s commitment to securing the rigor of the scientific record and ensuring individual researchers get the recognition they deserve.

Many different types of scholarly works can be linked to an ORCID identifier including grants, scholarly articles, books, data sets and conference proceedings.

IOP is also committed to ensuring that ORCID data is sent to CrossRef (the organization which oversees the DOI system which links journal articles) to enable more accurate tracking of citations.

The project is still developing and IOP’s innovations and production team are in the process of deciding how we can best implement the service to maximize the benefits for the communities we serve.
