Methods
In August 2025, we asked 30,570 researchers to complete our survey on peer review in the era of generative AI. We received responses from 348 individuals.
We contacted users who had either peer reviewed or co-authored for an IOP Publishing-owned journal in the last six months.
The survey was open for two weeks and two email reminders were sent to encourage users to complete the survey.
Country of respondents
A total of 340 respondents completed the country question. The five most common countries that respondents reported to be from were India (62), China (51), USA (24), Italy (16) and Germany (14).
Experience level of respondents
346 respondents answered the career stage question. Most respondents (57%) identified as being at a more senior stage of their career (early-career researchers, faculty, associate professors or higher).
Gender of respondents
347 respondents completed the gender question. 81% identified as being a man, 17% a woman, 1% non-binary and 1% prefer not to say.
