Committed to environmental change

Understanding and managing the environmental and social impacts of our activities is important to us as we work to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment.

Sustainability taskforce

We have a dedicated sustainability taskforce, made up of colleagues from around the business. The taskforce helps to drive activities through advocating for sustainable practices, raising awareness of sustainability issues and reporting on progress.

Ceasing print

In 2023, we discontinued journal print subscriptions, which will reduce our corporate carbon footprint by approximately 5% from 2024.

IOP for Environmental Change

IOP for Environmental Change is a talk series run by IOPP and the Institute of Physics, aimed at informing our colleagues about current environmental issues and the actions being taken to tackle them. Colleagues have been introduced to sustainability leaders including climate scientist Mark Maslin and his book, How to Save our Planet, as well as environmental activist Jojo Mehta and her campaign, Stop Ecocide International.

Environmental Research 2023

We organised Environmental Research 2023, a virtual event series to advance environmental research for a sustainable future. Spanning over a month, the virtual events covered topics such as energy, health, ecology, sustainable food systems, climate, and infrastructure and sustainability, and attracted 2,150 international registrations across 115 different countries.

Colleague engagement

Engaging our colleagues is a vital step in our journey to become a net zero company. Reducing our carbon emissions is a challenge that we face together, and as such, we offer colleagues support to live more sustainably. With the help of the Giki Zero app IOPP colleagues can calculate their carbon footprint and find steps to reduce it.

Sustainability collection

Committed to the United Nation’s (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we keep a collection of all the research that we have published that is associated with the UN’s 17 SDGs. The content is freely available for anyone who might benefit from it.
