IOP Publishing would like to congratulate Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi on winning the 2021 Nobel Prize for Physics. They have been awarded the prize for their ground-breaking contributions to our understanding of complex physical systems.
Syukoro Manabe and Klaus Haselmann have been jointly awarded half of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics for their physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming.
Giorgio Parisi was awarded the other half of the 2021 Nobel Prize for his discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales. His discoveries are among the most important contributions to the theory of complex systems.
We are proud to say that Giorgio Parisi has published about 180 of his research papers with IOP Publishing.
A tribute to 2021 Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi
IOP Publishing has also published a tribute to honour Parisi’s leading role in the field of statistical physics of disordered and complex systems and to celebrate his 70th birthday. The tribute, Discovered serendipity: a glassy path to discovery was published in our Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical.
The scientific background papers to this year’s Nobel Prize also cite research published in other journals published by IOP Publishing. More than 120 Nobel laureates and Field Medal winners have now published their work with us.
