The award acknowledges a researcher who early in his/her career has demonstrated excellence and innovation in their research on topics published by Plasma Sources Science and Technology (PSST).
The award is named after the founding editor of the journal, Professor Noah Hershkowitz.

Rules and criteria
- The award is judged by the PSST editorial board.
- The winner must also agree to write a review for PSST as part of the conditions for accepting the prize.
Additional information
- A cheque for £500 is presented to the winner.
