Congratulations to the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics laureates

04 Oct 2016 by alisonhadley

After the recent excitement and speculation about who would win this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics, the wait is over!

IOP Publishing congratulates David Thouless, Duncan Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz on becoming the latest Nobel Prize laureates. The trio won the award for their work on topological phase conditions, explaining strange phenomena in unusual phases (or states) of matter, such as superconductors, super-fluids or thin magnetic films. Their work has paved the way for the discovery of new materials.

The laureates published their research, including two of the definitive papers in this year’s prize, in IOP Publishing’s journals. In recognition of the laureates’ achievement, we have put together a collection of papers that are free to read until 31 October 2016. Some of these papers were cited in the Nobel Prize scientific background document, and we encourage all to read them.

The collection, containing papers by Duncan Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz, as well as other content in the field of topological phase conditions, is free to read until 31 October 2016. Go to http://iopscience.iop.org/page/nobel-prize-2016 to read the collection.
