January is a time when many make New Year’s resolutions to improve physical and mental wellbeing and take stock of accomplishments from the past 12 months.

Staff at IOP Publishing’s head office in Bristol are thrilled to report that following fundraising efforts last year, they raised a massive £8,960 for local mental health charity Bristol Mind.

Since 2012, IOP Publishing has adopted a charity of the year as part of the company’s commitment to the principles of corporate social responsibility. In 2015, staff came together to organise and participate in a wide range of fundraising activities, including three pub quizzes, cake “Bake Off” competitions and a gig at the Thunderbolt (co-organised by SongSmith), as well as three raffles.

Karen Gill, HR Director at IOP Publishing, said: “I’m again really impressed this year with how employees have come together to raise awareness and funds for our charity of the year.

“The raffles alone proved to be a superb success thanks to a great prize idea from a staff member – a day’s holiday. And what is great about this is that it fully supports Bristol Mind’s wellbeing agenda as well as our own policy here at IOP Publishing to provide our staff with a great flexible benefits package.

“Supporting Bristol Mind this year wasn’t just about fundraising. In October we ran Wellness Week, a week packed full of activities for our staff to pick and choose from – things like yoga, health checks, Indian head massages, mindfulness sessions and talks about mental health – to support our company’s wellness policy.”

Tom Hore, Director at Bristol Mind, said: “This is a wonderful way to start the New Year for Bristol Mind. The commitment, hard work and generosity of the IOP fundraising committee, IOP staff and their families and friends has been fantastic. This is a very significant amount of money for us, the largest amount we’ve ever received from a single fundraising effort, and it will support our new low-cost counselling service over the next year.

“From everyone at Bristol Mind I want to say a massive thank you to IOP and all the staff who made us your charity of the year and then gave so generously in time, effort and money to help provide support for people with emotional or mental-health difficulties.”

IOP provides fund matching to support staff in raising money for their charity of the year and in 2016, employees have selected St Peter’s Hospice as their adopted charity.
