The principles and procedures we follow when reviewing articles for our journals are outlined in IOP’s Peer Review Policy.

Topics covered include

  • the stages of peer review that articles progress through
  • how referees are chosen
  • use of adjudicators and the role of Editorial Board members

To protect the integrity of the scientific record we ask that all authors for IOP journals* agree to abide by our Ethical Policy for Journals. This policy also sets out our code of conduct for referees.

*Please note that some journals we publish on behalf of partner societies will have their own, equivalent ethical policies. In those cases, please refer to the journal’s homepage for more information.
