Physiological Measurement Martin Black Award

The publishers of Physiological Measurement, IOP Publishing, in association with the journal owners, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), jointly award an annual prize for the best paper published in the journal during the previous year.

The prize is named in honour of Martin Black, the first editor of Physiological Measurement.

Rules and criteria

• The judging process begins with the shortlisting of the 5–10 papers published in the previous year that have been rated the best based on referees' quality assessments.
• The Physiological Measurement Editorial Board then review the shortlisted papers, and rank them in terms of the quality of scientific content, originality and potential future impact.
• The paper that accumulates the most points from the board members' scores wins the prize.
• The award is presented at the IPEM annual meeting in September.
